Celebration of 28th Anniversary of National Heroes Day in Khartoum

On 4th February 2022, the Rwandan community together with the Diplomatic Mission in the Sudan celebrated the 28th National Heroes Day at ASSAHA restaurant, and Safety measures of distancing, face masking and sanitizing were strictly observed and the event was held in an open space. The event was comprised of the speech by the Head of Mission as well as songs and videos depicting heroes and their heroic acts as well as well as a short testimony of the 600 soldiers’ journey.
In his remarks, the Head of Mission Mr. Abel BUHUNGU started by thanking all attendees for honouring the invitation and reminded them why Rwandans both inside and outside the country annually celebrate their Heroes and Heroines on 1st February; and highlighted that Rwanda’s journey from an extremely low base to impressive milestones thus far including reconciliation among Rwandans after the devastation of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi is today generation’s fight to keep it and even thrive above.
The Head of Mission as well reminded the audience that it is thanks to the good governance that the today each Rwandan can proudly identify him/herself.  And further enlightened the audience on the three categories of heroes; IMANZI, IMENA and INGENZI and elaborated on the individual Heroes in the respective categories.
Stressing this year’s theme “UBUTWARI MU BANYARWANDA, AGACIRO KACU”, the Head of Mission expounded that heroes are characterized by Patriotism, Sacrifice, Bravery and Courageousness, Trustworthy, Humility, Unity, Integrity and hard-work. He characterised heroism as one of the most important values that Rwandans inherited from their ancestors and ultimately urged the Rwandan community in the Sudan to uphold important virtues such as integrity, patriotism, acts of bravery, setting a good example, truthfulness, and love for others.
After the official event, the Head of Mission used the opportunity to lead elections of the Rwandan community’s leading committee. Since the last committee was last elected in 2013.

The elected Committee for Rwandan Community in Sudan is as follows; Mr.TARATIBU JAPHET for Chairman, Mrs.UWERA SOLANGE vice chairwoman, Mr.KARANGWA EMILE for Secretary, Mr.NGAMIJE AMANI for Treasurer, Mrs.UWAMWEZI ZAYANA, secretary for Gender Equality, Mr.MUSHOZA ENOCH, Secretary for youth, Mr.MUHOZA PATRICK, Secretary for Social Affairs, and three advisors; NTAKIRUTIMANA JEAN CLAUDE, NZAMUKOSHA AGNES, NSHIMIYIMANA JEAN D’AMOUR.

The Head of Mission there after thanked the community for executing peaceful elections and requested the elected committee to approach the Diplomatic Mission at any time of their choices for all consultations they might need. The event was concluded by a get together luncheon while listening to the heroism songs and videos organized for that purpose.
