For People who are reading about Rwanda for the first time especially those interested in business or wishing to make it their tourism destination, we wish to highlight a few areas out of a range of impressive milestones Rwanda has continued to register as follows:
Rwanda has very ably positioned herself as one of the best tourist and conference destinations and Kigali was ranked second on the Continent after Cape Town, by the International Congress and Convention Association (report released on 12th May 2020). With regard to security and safety which are a vital consideration for visitors, Rwanda was ranked 2nd in Africa, and 11th globally most safest countries (2016 Gallup Global Law and Order report).
Due to its extensive doing business reforms of more than 10 years, Rwanda was ranked 2nd in Africa and 39th globally easiest place to do business (Doing Business Report, World Bank 2020). Also worth mentioning, Rwanda’s intolerance to corruption earned her 4th place in Africa and 1st in East Africa, as least corrupt Country (Transparency International, CPI 2020).
In August 2020, Rwanda received “Safe Travels” stamp, after it was listed by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) among few countries that have adopted the global standardized health and hygiene protocols for dealing with COVID19. The health and well-being of visitors thus remain a top priority just as it is for Rwandans in general.
Rwanda is positioning herself as a regional financial hub and has made a strategic choice of developing strong IT infrastructure to ensure seamless service provision and effective governance. With the toll of the COVID19 pandemic both on the national and global economy, Rwanda has recently initiated the Manufacture and Build to Recover Program (MBRP) to expedite recovery from the side effects of the COVID19 Pandemic. According, incentives for investors in the Agro-processing, Manufacturing and Real Estate Sectors that meet established minimum investment thresholds and that get established within two to three years from now are to enjoy VAT and Import Tax waivers.
Rwanda is mutually associated with the following regional and international economic and commercial blocs with related accrual benefits: EAC; COMESA; AfCFTA; ECCAS and WTO.
