E-PASSPORT

Rwandan nationals living or working in the Sudan, who fulfills the necessary requirements, can apply for three types of E-Passports; E-Ordinary Passport, E-Service Passport, E-Diplomatic Passport. 

The passports issued up to 27th June 2019 shall be valid until 28th June 2021. Click here for the communique.

A)    Ordinary e-passport: is issued to any Rwandan to facilitate his/her travels. Applications are submitted through IREMBO platform, then will be notified by the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration (DGIE), though SMS, to come at the embassy to give their biometrics (the 10 fingerprints and the digital photo).
Note:

  • Children below 16 years old are not required to give biometrics.  
  • Both parents must be present for portrait (photo) capture of children.
  •  For collection of child passport, birth certificate must be presented
  •  
  • VALIDITY:
  • A child passport is valid for 2 or 5 years
  • An adult passport valid for 5 or 10 years

APPLICATION FEES:

  • A child passport costs twenty-five thousand (25,000) FRW
  • An adult passport valid for 5 years’ costs seventy-five thousand (75,000) FRW
  • An adult passport valid for 10 years’ costs one hundred thousand (100,000) FRW

REQUIREMENTS:
APPLICANTS OF 16 YEARS AND ABOVE

  • Rwandan identity card
  • Payment of required application fees

CHILD UNDER 16 YEARS OLD, WITH LEGALLY MARRIED PARENTS

  • Application letter addressed to the Director General of Immigration and Emigration signed by both parents
  • One recently taken colored passport size photo with white background
  • Copy of both parents’ identity cards
  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Parents’ marriage certificate
  • Payment of 25,000 FRW
  •  
  • CHILD UNDER 16 YEARS OLD WHO LOST BOTH PARENTS
  •  Application letter addressed to the Director General of Immigration and Emigration signed by the guardian(s)
  • One recently taken colored passport size photo with white background
  • Copy of the guardian’s identity card(s)
  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Death certificate for both parents
  • Copy of a legal guardianship
  •  Payment of 25,000 FRW

CHILD UNDER 16 YEARS OLD WHO LOST ONE PARENT

  • Application letter addressed to the Director General of Immigration and Emigration signed by the living parent
  • One recently taken colored passport size photo with white background
  • Copy of the living parent’s Identity Card
  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Death certificate of the deceased parent
  • Payment of 25,000 FRW

CHILD UNDER 16 YEARS OLD WITH DIVORCED PARENTS

  • Application letter addressed to the Director General of Immigration and Emigration signed by both parents
  • One recently taken colored passport size photo with white background
  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Copy of the identity cards of both parents
  • Copy of divorce judgment
  • Payment of 25,000 FRW

CHILD UNDER 16 YEARS OLD WHOSE PARENTS ARE NOT LEGALLY MARRIED

  • Application letter addressed to the Director General of Immigration and Emigration signed by both parents
  • One recently taken colored passport size photo with white background
  • Copy of the identity card of both parents
  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Celibacy certificate of the mother
  • In case the child stays with the father, he presents the certificate of recognition issued by the sector authorities
  • Payment of 25,000 FRW

  • NB:
  • In case of loss or theft of passport, the applicant shall present the certificate issued by the competent authority
  • If it is established that there was a negligence on the person whose passport was lost, stolen or damaged, the application fees is increased by 50%.
  • In case of loss, theft or damage of passport, the applicant is subjected to interview for explanations on circumstances under which it happened.

B)  SERVICE PASSPORT

The service passport is issued to Rwandan nationals or (delegates of Rwanda) who are in Sudan for an official mission. Applications are submitted through IREMBO platform:

The applicant can approach IREMBO agent, or do it themselves on the IREMBO platform.

The applicant will then be notified by the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration (DGIE), though SMS, to come at DGIE offices to give their biometrics (the 10 fingerprints and the digital photo). The applicant will then be issued with the e-passport.

VALIDITY: This Passport is valid for Five (5) years

APPLICATION FEES: Fifteen thousand Rwandan francs 15,000 FRW

REQUIREMENTS

  NB:

For someone who has already acquired a Service Passport, he/she should present his/her “Mission order” from the competent authority to get back the passport.

If the applicant is a child, requirements on ordinary passport apply, except for the application fees which are the 15,000 FRW.

C) DIPLOMATIC PASSPORT

The diplomatic e-passport is issued to high ranking officials in the country or to those representing Rwanda abroad and others as may be specified by the ministerial order. Applications are submitted through IREMBO platform:

  • The applicant can approach IREMBO agent, or do it himself to access the platform
  • The applicant is notified by the officer of the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration (DGIE), though SMS, to come at DGIE to give his biometrics (the 10 fingerprints and the digital photo)
  • The day following the biometrics capture, DGIE notifies the applicant to come and pick the passport

Note: Children below 16 years old are not required to give biometrics.  

VALIDITY: This Passport is valid for Five (5) years

REQUIREMENTS

  • Identity card if any
  • Appointment order or any other official recommendation
  • Payment of 50,000 FRW

NB:

Officials entitled to a Diplomatic Passport are not allowed to use another type of passport, except on special authorization.
